Hi from the Social Action Committee with help from the Israel Affairs Committee of the Regional Board of Northeast NCSY! We have organized a 5K that people can walk or run in order to help Save a Child’s Heart.
Save a Child’s Heart was founded in 1995 by the late Dr. Amram “Ami” Cohen, an American immigrant to Israel. His organization, based in Holon, Israel, provides free critical pediatric heart surgery and extensive care to children from developing countries. Save a Child’s Heart has performed 6,000 surgeries on children from over 60 countries, with approximately half of the patients coming from the Palestinian Authority and Gaza, and 40% from African nations. They have treated children as young as a few days old and as old as teenagers. In April 2018, the United Nations honored Save a Child’s Heart with the prestigious UN Population Award commending their outstanding contributions to population and reproductive health questions and their solutions. Staffing solely relies on volunteer positions and Israeli doctors and nurses caring for the patients as well as training medical personnel from the patients’ countries in life-saving pediatric cardiology. Funding relies heavily on donations worldwide and Northeast NCSY is going to help raise money for them with our 5K!
